A New Chapter: John Finds Happiness at Aeralife Botany

Resident stories

We’re excited to shine a spotlight on one of our newest residents at Aeralife Botany, John. A man of diverse experiences, passions, and a generous spirit, John has quickly made a warm impression on both staff and fellow residents. Here’s a look into this new chapter his life story, the experiences that shaped him, and his thoughts on life today.

A Childhood in Cronulla

John grew up in Cronulla, a coastal suburb of Sydney, where he shared a home with his parents and two siblings—his brother Arthur and sister Dianne. His father owned a business in the city, Greigs Fabrics, where John worked for many years. “I took an active interest in the business,” John shares, noting that it was a place where he learned not just about fabrics, but also about commitment and hard work. Even from an early age, John’s curiosity extended beyond the family business, with a keen interest in electrical sound equipment and a natural eagerness to learn new things.

A Life Full of Memorable Moments

He describes this transition as an important chapter in his life, where he was able to give back and support others in need.

Reflecting on his adult life, John recalls some of his most significant memories, including his 20-year marriage to his former spouse Susan. “We went to school together and got married when I was 22,” John says. Though they later divorced, the relationship and the years that followed shaped much of his adult journey.

A pivotal moment in John’s career was when his health took a sudden turn, leading him to shift gears and join the disability sector. He describes this transition as an important chapter in his life, where he was able to give back and support others in need.

From Business to Community Engagement

John’s professional life started in his father’s shop, where he wore many hats, gaining invaluable experience across different areas. After his career took a turn, he found a new calling in the disability industry, where he focused on supporting those who faced similar challenges to his own.

When it comes to his hobbies, John has always been a lover of music and travel, whether exploring new destinations overseas or locally. He’s someone who believes in trying anything that comes his way, with a friendly and open-minded attitude. “I like going out, being friendly, and watching serials on TV,” he says with a smile.
